Young Farmers is a youth organisation, for young people with an interest in the country side. Though you definitely do not have to be a farmer to be a Young Farmer.Each club is run by its members so meetings are organised to suit the members interests. Meetings can be guest speakers, visits, activities, or competitions. Recent meetings held in Bedfordshire are farm visits, water sports, first aid, treasure hunts, archery, self defence, salsa dancing, cider making, talks by revenues and customs, driver safety, and a local juror. Clubs usually meet formally once a week. This allows the members to find out about forthcoming activities and events within county and nationally. The clubs compete against each other to win trophy’s and represent the county at Eastern Area and National level. Competitions include Hockey,Netball, Football, Tennis, Rounders, Swimming, Kwik Cricket, Rugby, Tug of War, Public Speaking, Member of the year, Pub Quiz, Call my bluff, Drama, Fence erecting, Stock judging,Efficiency with Safety, Cookery, Flower arranging,Equine, Handicrafts, Photography, ATV Handling, Welding and Gun Dog Handling plus many more.To raise funds for running the club and to support its chosen charity for the year, Teenage Cancer Trust, there are several social events through out the year, including discos, formal balls and other fundraising events. To find out more about the social events and competitions please look at the events page.National Young Farmers runs a discovery programme which gives you the opportunity to travel internationally and within the UK. These can be short 10 day trips or 6 months trips to Australia, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Scotland and many other countries.To take part in any of these activities and many, many more all you need to do is become a member of Bedfordshire Young Farmers. Contact Jane in the county office or the chairman of your local club to find out more about their future meetings. There is a small membership fee which covers insurance and meeting costs. All the chairman’s and members look forward to meeting new members and will welcome you warmly to the club.
